Final Sneak Peek | Good For You

Here's a final sneak peek of Tuesday's release!

“Out of everything you’ve said, it hasn’t been that you regret anything, so what’s up? There’s no reason to be nervous around me, embarrassed or none of that shit. We wanted it and—”

“That doesn’t mean it should’ve happened.”

“Why doesn’t it?” he asked.

When Chaska continued avoiding his intense stare, he blew out a breath. Bakari was tired of the run around and, more importantly, dodging the question that had been on his mind.

“Are you pregnant?”

The question was enough to have what little bit of color remained on her face draining as her eyes widened, rising to meet his.

“Who told you that?”

“Nobody told me anything, but you damn sure should’ve. Regardless of what was going on with us, you didn’t think I needed to know that shit?”

Chaska held her breath, waiting on him to ask if it were his or to say anything else for that matter, but he never did. He was waiting on her to provide some sort of an explanation, and though there wouldn’t be one good enough for hiding something so serious, Bakari still wanted to hear it.

She shifted around in her seat, using her teeth to gently tug at her bottom lip before speaking. “I wasn’t hiding it. I just didn’t know if there was a pregnancy to tell you about.”

“What you mean you don’t know?”

“I mean what I just said. I don’t know.”

Bakari’s teeth sank into his cheek to keep himself from snapping at the snarky tone she was using. “But you think you are, right?”

As if his line of questioning were upsetting to her, Chaska blew out a breath. Bakari chuckled lowly, shaking his head. He wasn’t asking anything out of the normal and was growing more agitated from the way she was acting, sitting across from him as if he were pestering her or had even done something when that was furthest from the case. It was the attitude Pineapple commented on earlier in the night, and he was seeing for himself that it wasn’t a venomous accusation.

“I’m a little nauseous sometimes, but that’s it. Nothing worth taking a test over.”

Bakari snickered from the answer, motioning for the waiter to come with their check. Chaska might’ve been okay living in ignorant bliss about what was going on, but he wasn’t. He needed to know sooner than later if he were going to be a father. Whether she was ready or not, he was about to get some answers since she wasn’t willing to provide them.

While the waiter worked on finalizing their bill, Bakari dug into his wallet, pulling out a fifty-dollar bill, extending it toward her. She slowly pulled it from his hand, initially believing it to be a tip for the waiter, but Bakari didn’t leave her wondering to long before correcting her.

“It’s a CVS down the street. By the time I finish up here, you should be checked out, peeing on the stick, and waiting on the results to come back.”

Chaska’s mouth dropped, eyes narrowing from the directions laid out for her. “Are you serious?”

“Dead ass serious. Go handle that and I’ll meet you over there.”

“No.”

“What?”

“No. You don’t tell me what to do,” she sassed, tossing the bill at him. “I’m going home.”

Grabbing her purse, Chaska stood and turned to leave when Bakari spoke, stopping her before she could even take a step.

“Cool. Then I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll even bring the test and make it easy on you.”

She turned around, glaring at him. Her stare wasn’t as intimidating as she’d hoped it to be and knew it from the way the hardened expression on Bakari’s face didn’t falter. He was putting his foot down, giving her two options in how she wanted to take the pregnancy test. Either way, it was getting done.

Chaska scoffed, snatching the bill off the table. “Asshole.” She was sure there was a loud stomp with each step she took just so that if Bakari wasn’t aware of her anger, he would catch the hint.
